Must be fiction?!

Can it really be like that?
I just saw the movie Lakeview Terrace - for you who havent seen it - it's a bout an interracial couple moving in next door to this LAPD cop.
But I mean this must be fiction - it can't really be like this in the reality? Or can it? I'm not living in the States, but it can't be this full of prejudices.

It's based on a true story about a black male cop who was harrasing an interracial couple even made sexual suggestions to their child. He also harrased others as well.

It certainly can be. There was an interracial couple killed by 4 young black guys a few months ago. However it's not like this for everyone. I"m Black and my husband is 1/2 White 1/2 Latino. While occasionally we get looks (from White & Latina Women and Black Men)and a couple of snide remarks, for the most part no one bothers us. Sometimes it has to do with where you live. We're in the general NYC area.

Unfortunately in some areas things are still that bad...and even worse. Many Americans grew up on stereotypes and teach their children the same stereotypes, so there are still a lot of uneasy feelings about interracial relationships in some places in the US.

Yes it can be true.

As others have stated there can be threats and people have been killed.

I pressed the button to quick... in my experience, I have no problems. But I think with the increase of BW/WM pairings, black men are getting very jealous and also envy white men for having the creme de la creme of beautiful black women!!

Don't forget these same black men are often paired with white women.

Unfortunately, some men will go that far. To J. Gracey: Are talking about the military couple? They were a beautiful newlywed couple. But yes, it does depend on where you live. I live in the South and we sometimes get some strange looks if we are in a rural area. But I believe there is narrow-mindedness and ignorance everywhere.

Yes FunkyStarkitty50 that's the couple I meant. I am heartbroken each time I think of them.

Definitely narrow mindedness everywhere. I just think that sometimes it helps being in bigger cities because there are so many people, with different looks. I hear that Virginia Beach is a haven for mixed couples. Namely WM with BW. That's what I hear anyhow.

I can feel you when you say you are heartbroken everytime you think of them...

I've lived in the US all my life. Unless you live way down south, all of this supposed taboo regarding interracial couples is almost nonexistent. We've pretty much moved past it. Don't listen to what others say, they're looking at the very small minority of ignorant people in this country.

it all depends about where you are
I'm based in Massachussetts and I cant tell you of one incident where I or my family felt threatened like this
[My fathers white and my mothers Kenyan [the nubian chiefs daughter actually lol]
but I'm 18 now and I really havent seen anything like that...
the south is pretty fucked up though
aside from florida all those red states have alot of major shit going on

I'm from a college town in WV, and I get remarks from people if I'm with a friend. We can be doing something as harmless as going for a run and the looks and snide remarks are horrible. It's really sad.

It can happen. It usually happens in small towns, with close minded people.

Yep, I was on a date with this guy once and we were just in the park talking and occasionally cuddling and I was getting the worst looks from other black men. It's not very fair seeing as how they have probably all dated outside their race too. My date didn't seem to notice but I was very aware of it.
I've noticed here in England, most of the interracial couples come out at night. But honestly it isn't too bad. You see a lot more WW/BM relationships here though.
