I remember buying two copies of the Italian Vogue issues featuring black women on the cover. That magazine sold out so quickly!
I'm glad that Italian vogue recognizes the beauty of black women. One of many reasons why I want to visit and possibly live there.
*Yawn* This is nothing. They pretty much put us all into the Special Token issue and went "Lookit! We're being progressive!!" Sorry, not impressing me. At. All. When black women, and other women of color, are represented in a light which is equal to their white counterparts, then I'll be impressed. Other than that, I'll pass on buying that issue.
Actually, I'm a black woman who just got back from visiting Rome and Florence for two weeks and never experienced anything close to "Anonymous" experience. The people were incredibly kind to me. The men were a bit "loud" with their compliments but nothing disrespectful.
I agree with the last post from an "Anonymous." I too was in Rome and Florence last year and worried about the association of black women as protitutes. I can say 100% not an issue. The men were openly adoring (I agree, a bit loud)and very respecful. Take a trip ladies, it will do wonders for your ego!
