love your site and I used to only date women of colour before marrying my current Zambian.

I don't like two things about your site:

1) Your focus on white racism, like people using the "N" word etc. White racism I think has limited impact on black women compared to the intra-racism they suffer from members of the black community. Considering 14% of black men in Amercia marry non-black women; and the majority of abuse heaped on black women, physical, emotional, used as objects for sex or mules for money etc, abandonement (60% of black children are raised by single black mothers) comes from black men.

As a person who has spent time in black communitites I can assure you the most racist comments I have heard come from Black men i.e. "Why do you date black women when white women are so nice", "Can't you get a white women", "Black women who date white men are whores".

2) Your constant use of urban/American slang (big up, send love etc.); it gives the impression that people who like women of colour are "wiggas" which is not the case.

And incidently urban/American hip hop culture has a very limited appreciation of black beauty. Have you ever watched a Snoop Doggy Dogg or Ja Rule video clip, the majority of so called "Black women" are light (mixed) with Euro not African features. I know the majority of American Black women are not light skinned or mixed, yet these types are the only types featured in these clips. Usher in the advertisments for his fragance simply uses a white women now.

Even if you look at Black magazines like Show or Smooth the majority of "Black" women featured (when they are not putting out a "white" or "latina" issue) are light/mixed coloured.

I think, if you want to "uplift Black women" you should help remove the myth that only lighter skinned "black" women with Euro features are attractive. The majority of harm inflicted on Black women comes from Black men. That is who they need "uplifting" from. This is fact not racism.

So please don't use hip hop/urban/black (whatever it is called) vernacular, and if you want to focus on racism, that actually affects the majority of black women, why not focus on hip hop or the abuse showered on beautiful "dark" women by hip hop.

My best friends are African males, I enjoy hip hop, and my wife is lighter (although I always found darker women more attractive). However, I understand the negative affect that black men, the hip hop stereotype that only lighter skinned women like Beyonce are attractive have on black women.

I love your site but please don't write in the language of this ignorant culture that has such a negative impact on beautiful darker women.

Damian,
Thanks so much for your on point comments regarding the tremendously negative ANTI-BW RACISM/HATE promoted by MANY American BM against BW. We definitely need MORE MEN of ALL RACES to stand up in defense of BW.

It's also critical that these ANTI-BW RACIST/HATER BM be confronted, challenged, and shamed for the way the TRASH the HUMANITY, DIGNITY, and FEMININITY of BW.

This PRO-BW blog is excellent but it can be even better by highlighting the truths Damian has mentioned.

Damian,
You made a lot of great comments about racism in the black community. I have also noticed a lot of negativity between blacks. I am a dark skinned female, and I cannot tell you the number of times black men have treated me with disgust and ridicule for being dark. I've also noticed this disrespect being heaped on other dark-skinned women. It's a shame.
