Free Chansa Kabwela
"Chansa Kabwela is a Post Newspaper Editor in Lusaka, Zambia who is believed to have distributed obscene photos of a woman giving birth in public.Kabwela has been subjected to high profile attacks including some senior members of the ruling party MMD.
In her testimony, Chansa Kabwela states that she had sent the pictures of the woman in the hope that it would move the Government to take quick action and end the strike by health workers. However, the Police, senior MMD officers [including the President of the Republic of Zambia] describe the photos as pornographic in nature and in violation of Zambian Law.
For the sake of clarity, let us look at the exact meaning of pornography:-
1 : the depiction of erotic behavior (as in pictures or writing) intended to cause sexual excitement
2 : material (as books or a photograph) that depicts erotic behavior and is intended to cause sexual excitement
3 : the depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction”
From these definitions, Ms. Kabwela's testimony suffices.
Kabwela was arrested July 13 and charged with circulating obscene pictures to government officials and aid groups. The Post never published the photos, but Kabwela said she wanted to make Zambian policy makers aware of the impact of the strike. Kabwela is out on bail and due to appear for trial this month. She faces up to five years in prison."

Post news editor Chansa Kabwela has been found with no case to answer. LUSAKA chief resident magistrate Charles Kafunda delivered the ruling before a parked court room this afternoon after adjourning the matter earlier in the morning. Asked how she felt about the ruling, Kabwela said it was not her victory nor for the newspaper, but for the person in the said pictures. And Post Editor in Chief Fred M'membe has challenged President Rupiah Banda to appeal against Kafunda's ruling to the high court.
